The Photograph | Ode to Love Jones + Soundtrack Review

What’s up guys. Today I’m coming to you with some different flava and what better way to bring in the month of March than to talk about a great movie with an even better soundtrack? Do people still listen to soundtracks? I do but I’m also a music fanatic.

Nimo and I stepped out on Valentine’s day to see The Photograph movie starring Issa Rae and Lakeith Stanfield and written and directed by Stella Meghie.

In my mind (and Nimo’s too) the movie was like the new age Love Jones. If you haven’t seen Love Jones, its a classic african american romance with the perfect amount of drama accompanied by the dopest Jazz soundtrack. It’s a must see.

Back to The Photograph…without giving too much away, this movie had me with the flash backs of Issa’s character’s mother telling her story of love or the lack there of dating back to prior to Issa’s character’s birth. This is all delivered in a letter after the passing of the mother. Thus, we are piecing together this woman’s life and her one true love’s story as Issa’s character goes through life and unsuspectedly meets a gentleman covering her mother’s photographic history.

The entire movie is played out with the deepest of jazz sounds mixed with a few new age vibes like The Internet and H.E.R. The music for most of the movie is written and directed by Robert Glaser who I’ve discovered to be brilliant on the piano…but then again he’s a pianist. The soundtrack is apart of my daily routine of music to listen to, no matter my mood. There is  little chill vibe for everyone.

So, if you haven’t already, please do yourself a favor and go see this movie. Five stars and two thumbs up.
